Oxidation is a chemical reaction that occurs when metal reacts with oxygen in the air, moisture or other natural elements present in the atmosphere, forming metal oxides. All metals, except for precious metals, oxidize when exposed to oxygen. Patina is a thin layer that forms on metals as a result of oxidation. Patina can be made up of metal oxides, carbonates, sulfates, or sulfides. It can form naturally over time or artificially through using reactive oxidizing metal decorative paints like ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX OXIDATE. Patina is valued aesthetically for its antique colours. ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX OXIDATE Oxidizing Metal Paints are available in Copper, Iron, Bronze and Zinc Metals along with various Activator Ageing Solution for Rust, Green, Blue and Yellow colour finishes.

ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX OXIDATE Acid Blocking Primer is a unique water-based acrylic modified primer. Unlike other primers, it is especially formulated to block the OXIDATE Rust Activator Ageing Solutions from reaching the reactive substrates. This helps prevent the formation of rust or other oxidation products from forming under the paint film. OXIDATE Acid Blocking Primer also blocks the alkali salts, tannins, acid salts, or other unwanted contaminates from bleeding through to the OXIDATE Oxidizing Iron Metal Paint film and causing adverse reactions and unwanted colour changes in the oxidized finish. OXIDATE Acid Blocking Primer can be brushed, rolled or spray applied.

ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX OXIDATE Oxidizing Iron Metal Paint is a water base, modified acrylic, Low VOC paint with a high concentration of real iron metal particles. It will rust naturally over time, if exposed to the natural elements, but the OXIDATE Rust Activator Ageing Solution will speed up the oxidation process and create a beautiful, authentic rust finish within minutes.

ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX POLYGUARD TOP PROTECTIVE SEALER is an all-in-one water base, clear, non-yellowing, protective sealer designed to work over the OXIDATE Oxidizing Metal Paint. This innovative clear coat chemically arrests the oxidized metal finish, minimizing any further reaction and then self-crosslinks to create a weather resistant barrier. The application of POLYGUARD Top Protective Sealer is highly recommended over the Rust finish to protect from Moisture and to prevent runoff of the rust finish caused due to rain. POLYGUARD Top Protective Sealer can be brushed, rolled or spray applied.

The entire system can be applied to any properly prepared surface, including wood, drywall, plaster, paintable wall coverings, canvas or muslin, plastic and metal surfaces. Popular applications range from full interior and exterior walls, moldings, trims, columns, doors, railings, lamps, vases, and planters.

OXIDATE Oxidizing Iron Metal Paint can be brushed, rolled, or spray applied. OXIDATE Rust Activator Ageing Solution can be applied with a brush, sponge or sprayed. POLYGUARD Top Protective Sealer can be applied by brush, varnish roller or sprayed.

  2. OXIDATE (Oxidizing Iron Metal Paint) : 4 – 5 Sqmt / Lit for double coat.
  3. OXIDATE (Rust Activator Ageing Solution) : 5 – 6 Sqmt / Lit for double coat.
  4. POLYGUARD (Top Protective Sealer) : 5 – 6 Sqmt / Lit for double coat.

APPLICATION

SURFACE PREPARATION 

  • New masonry surface should be fully cured prior to application, for weak old surfaces repairing and replastering is recommended. 
  • Surface should be free from Grease, oil, loosely bound old paint, sand particles, glue, lime, POP, fungus, moss or anything that might weaken the adhesion. The efflorescence surface must be cleaned thoroughly using EFFLORESCENCE CLEANER using a wire brush followed by thorough water washing. 
  • Surface cracks up to 5mm width and large pores must be filled with CRACK X SEAL 2001. Larger cracks, damaged portions and hollow areas must be repaired using PMM (Polymer Modified Mortar)
BASE COAT PRIMER APPLICATION 
 
  • Ensure that the surface is flat and smooth prior to Primer application. 
  • Sand the surface with 120 grit emery paper and wipe it clean using a damp sponge to remove all loose particles from the surface. 
  • Using a Microfiber roller apply 2 coats of ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX OXIDATE ACID BLOCKING PRIMER without dilution giving 5-6 hours drying time between each coat and leave the final coat to dry overnight.
TOP COAT METAL PAINT APPLICATION
 
  • Using a sponge roller apply 2 coats of ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX OXIDATE OXIDIZING IRON METAL PAINT without dilution giving 3-4 hours drying time between each coat and leave the final coat to dry overnight.
RUST ACTIVATOR APPLICATION
 
  • Apply ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX OXIDATE RUST ACTIVATOR AGEING SOLUTION using a brush, Sponge or Sprayer bottle evenly throughout the painted surface and leave it to react for 5 minutes, reapply the activator second time and wait for the Rust finish to appear. Leave it free for 24 hours before applying to the top protective sealer.
PROTECTIVE SEALER COAT APPLICATION
 
  • Ensure the surface is completely dry prior to application. 
  • Using a sponge roller apply two coats of ADMIRE PAINTS ARTTEX POLYGUARD TOP PROTECTIVE SEALER, First coat with water dilution in 1:1 ratio and second coat without dilution giving 3-4 hours drying time between each coat and leave the system to cure thoroughly for 7-10 days.
 

PRECAUTION

Use in a well ventilated area. Do not apply in temperature below 55°F/13°C or above 85°F/29°C. Stir thoroughly before use. Use gloves. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after use. Do not take internally. When sanding or spraying use a good respirator. Keep out of reach of children. Clean brushes, rollers, tools and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use. Close tightly the lid when not in use. Store in cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. If frozen, allow the paint to completely thaw and come to room temperature before use.  Do not re-use empty containers and dispose them properly. Dispose the unwanted product in accordance with the local laws regulating water based coatings.
