APPLICATIONS GUIDLINES
- Surface Preparation: Clean all surfaces to remove grease, dirt, laitance, and contaminants. In repair works, remove unsound concrete and wash the area with a high-pressure water jet mixed with sodium bicarbonate. De-rust all metal surfaces and apply a zinc-rich primer. Pre-wet the substrate with clean water, ensuring no standing water remains before application.
- Formwork: Use tight, leak-proof formwork for machine and column bases. Ensure the formwork allows continuous grout flow and provides full coverage. Keep all support structures securely fixed. Remove formwork only after the grout has properly hardened.
- Mixing Instructions: Mix 12%–14% water by weight (approx. 2.5–3.0 L per 20 kg bag). Add the dry mix to water in a clean container. Use a mechanical mixer for a consistent blend. Mix only the quantity you can place within 15–20 minutes. Do *not* add extra water. After 10 minutes of thorough mixing, a self-compacting, workable mix is achieved.
- Placement and Compaction: Apply when ambient temperatures are below 30°C. During hot weather, schedule placement in early mornings or late evenings. Place grout from one side only to prevent air entrapment. Use tamping rods or chains to ensure proper compaction and air release. Controlled vibration may be used, avoiding excessive movement.
- Restraint: Ensure proper restraint to enable controlled expansion. For exposed surfaces over 50 mm thick, reinforcement is recommended.
- Curing: Protect fresh grout from wind and sunlight. Cover with wet hessian cloth or pond water. When using hessian, cure for a minimum of 7 days.
Note: Initial strength gain will be slower at ambient temperatures below 10°C. Use warm mixing water (30°C–40°C) in such cases and delay demoulding to at least 36 hours. Site trials are recommended for specific job conditions.
